Tim Bergling, known globally as Avicii has passed away at the age of 28.
This terrible news was brought to light in the form of a statement from the Swedish producer’s publicist over night. See below:
“It is with profound sorrow that we announce the loss of Tim Bergling, also known as Avicii,” Diana Baron, his publicist said in a statement. “He was found dead in Muscat, Oman this Friday afternoon local time, April 20. The family is devastated and we ask everyone to please respect their need for privacy in this difficult time. No further statements will be given.”
Avicii’s label, Sony have also spoken out, writing “We are mourning the incredibly sad loss of an exceptionally creative talent who we have been honored and proud to represent as one of our songwriters for a number of years. Our thoughts are with his family at this time”.
The cause of his death remains unknown at this point, however he had been struggling with his health for years. He was hospitalised in Miami in 2014 due to a gall bladder blockage and forced to cancel his headline slot at Ultra Music Festival. In 2016 he announced his retirement from touring.
