Norway could soon decriminalise illegal drug use

Thanks to a recent vote within Norway’s parliament, illegal drugs could soon be decriminalised.

The Labor Party, Socialist Left, Conservatives and Liberals all voted in favour of passing the law, which made up for 133 of 175 votes. Majority rules!

A different approach will be taken to the people involved in this type of drug-taking, and rather they will be focusing on rehabilitation rather than punishment. Norwegian publication VG states that “The majority will stop punishing people who struggle, but instead give them help and treatment”.

This change in attitude is quite an alternative way of thinking. Drugs can be a result of looking for a way to cope with mental health, and rehabilitation can definitely be a more helpful aid for this.

Do you think that rehabilitation is an appropriate sentence for an illegal drug user?
