Premiere: Fall into LOVER’s brooding new track ‘Clumsy’

Sydney musician LOVER, aka Oliver Kirby, has given us a slick new tune of his to show off exclusively, and it’s seriously smooth on the ears.

Clumsy’ reworks Fergie’s classic 00’s hit with a groove-filled, mellow new flavour. Enlisting fellow Sydney-sider Taka Perry on production duties, the instrumentation is littered with delicious percussive hits and an ambient chatter, contrasting with the swelling, moody synths. Up above, LOVER’s vocals shine, bringing a wave of realness into the lyrics that the original never has. The track plays around with your expectations, and rather than continuing in its smooth ebb and flow, taunts with extreme highs and lows, and in a very James Blake-esque moment, suspends a single line on repeat. All this forms a gem of a tune that takes a truly unique spin on an R’n’B hit.

Add this to some recent studio workings with Oh Boy, an EP scheduled for the end of the year, and we’re now very keen to hear what LOVER’s got in the works. We highly recommend you check the track out below.
