Melbourne’s Christopher Port shares emotive EP and clothing line

Melbourne’s Christopher Port is proving to be a local powerhouse of creativity, dropping an original-sounding at the same time as debuting a clothing brand to match it. Coming out on Future Classic and Pieater and featuring a single we already love ‘Nobody Choose You’, this morsel-sized tape will please your ears, and the only concern is that it will leave you craving more.

He’s also released a one-off fashion line to go with his EP because… he can. Designed completely and even stitched by Port himself, this uniquely dark and arrested clothing line goes perfectly with his abstract music.

Port’s music is a breath of fresh air in today’s climate of local electronic music, going for a much more UK inspired 2-step, garage sound with lots of ambient influences and lush textures. His grooves are very subtle and his synths are very understated, giving this an overall downtempo vibe. Percussion is light and bass is warm, creating a very mellowed out mood to his beats. But as laid-back as the music is, Port will not hide from throwing in some left-of-centre sounds and experimentation, which makes these tracks super interesting when listened to attentively. They fit both as background music for surfing the internet, as well as music to work your mind a little bit. If you’re into Bonobo, Burial, Mount Kimbie, check this out, you’ll go pretty crazy for it.

He’ll be making his way around Australia visiting People’s Club (Sydney), the END (Brisbane) and the Evelyn (Melbourne). He’ll also be supporting Mount Kimbie on their Twilight in Taronga show in march, which will be a night for experimental electronic fans to go wild at.
