Local favourite UV Boi has returned to us with a new EP officially out today on Valve Sounds. If you haven’t become familiar with the smooth vocals and lush sounds from the rising R&B producer/singer, it’s now the time to jump on board as he’s already caught enough high-profile attention to support the likes of Kaytranada and Goldlink.
Returned Alone is a hypnotising 6-track snack of dark, atmospheric soundscapes which showcase UV Boi’s flair for creating evocative moods with his subtle yet powerful production. With each track, he grabs hold of a groove and doesn’t let go. He builds on each beat with eerie vocals and spacious textures in a manner that makes the tracks grow effectively. The 2014 Triple j Unearthed winner makes his music stick out in the local producer scene by fusing elements of contemporary R&B, trip-hop, dream-pop all with a flavour of trap. It flexes the dynamism of UV Boi as an artist, but keeps his expressiveness contained in a concise, cohesive fashion. It’s not exactly the most uplifting, summery selection of tracks, but Returned Alone has a definitive mood to go with it and it suits those moments almost too perfectly.
UV Boi will be celebrating the release of this EP with a run of headline shows through the country in October and September. Will you come down to be emotionally moved by this artist?
