Sampha wins Mercury Prize for his incredible debut album

Words by Hannah Prasad

The 2017 Mercury Prize has gone to the soul-man himself, Sampha.

The South London born artist won the prize for his debut album ‘Process’ that dropped back in February, a project home to moving singles such as ‘Blood On Me’ and ‘(No One Knows Me) Like The Piano’ which he performed on the night.

It was not light competition for Sampha this year, going up against the likes of J Hus, Stormzy, The xx, Blossoms and Ed Sheeran, who were all nominated for their outstanding albums released in 2017.

Sampha’s claim of the prize sees him followingTottenham MC Skepta who took out the prize in 2016, and Benjamin Clementine the year prior.

Listen to his performance of (No one Knows Me) Like The Piano from the night below and let us know if it gives you the feels.
