SoundCloud’s Sydney office is closing today

Following on from a month of wobbly news coming out of the SoundCloud camp, it has been confirmed that their Sydney office is closing shop.

The news was shared yesterday via AdNews, who revealed SoundCloud’s Australian front would be following the likes of their UK and San Francisco offices in a bid to cut costs, seeing Sydney’s commercial director Shaun Alexander and senior account manager Marta Bonzanini leaving the company.

This isn’t to say the Aussie region will now be disregarded, however, with confirmation coming through that Australian dealings for SoundCloud will now be handled by the main US office.

With that said, you can’t help but feel a little uneasy about it all. The music world is currently sweating the future of the popular streaming service, with reports that the company only had weeks to live. These reports have since been dubbed false by SoundCloud’s founder Alex Ljung, who described the rumours as “just noise”.

In other related news, SoundCloud’s laid off staff have been offered $10,000 each to start something new. Read more on that here.

What do you think the future holds for SoundCloud?
