Backpacker hot-spot Scubar is closing down tonight

Popular backpacker nightspot Scubar is officially closing it’s doors for good as of tonight.

For those who have ventured to this beloved hole in the wall over the years, you can attest to the fact that Scubar provided nothing but no-holes-barred, sweaty, ignant thrill. Be it in the way of Hawaiian shirt infested tropical themed parties or just for the gung-ho attitude of the backpacker-heavy clientele, Scubar certainly left it’s mark on Sydney nightlife.

As sad as this is, owner Marty Short has high hopes for a return. He says “We’re not saying the door will be closed forever… We believe Sydney deserves a venue that provides the experience that Scubar has for so long, so who knows where and when Scu may pop up again,”. We’ve got high hopes as well, Marty.

The news follows the recent closure of Darlinghurst venue Zoo Project, another famed tourist nightspot which shut it’s doors last month.

As devo as we are, it’s another great reminder for us to support Sydney nightlife, which we can all do so at the upcoming Keep Sydney Open festival going down on July 1st in Kings cross. For more info, click here.

So for those who wish to have one last hoo-rah at Scubar, head along tonight and see it off!
