While over the last number of years Sydney’s nightlife has diminished and offered incredibly, VIVID is the one time each year where everyone seems to get on board with showcasing all the values and aspects that make the city great. While it started with lights, music has quickly become the biggest part of the festival, with Sydney operating at the sort of level that one could hope eventually becomes the norm. Back again this year is another VIVID event hoping to eventually become the norm, the Women in Electronic Music Showcase.
Presented by MusicNSW and FBi Radio, the showcase brings together an impressive sample of some of the country’s best producers, DJs and personalities. Having previously showcased the likes of Banoffee, Rainbow Chan, BUOY, Habits, GL and way more, the reputation precedes the series. This year the lineup is the most stacked it’s ever been, hosted by Flexmami and with Kučka, Linda Marigliano, OKENYO, Mookhi, Various Asses, SPORTS, Andy Garvey, Annie Bass, ALTA and Miss Blanks all set to tear Oxford Art Factory apart. United States jersey/hip-hop queen UNIIQU3 is on the bill too, bringing some serious international heat.
With such a huge difference in numbers and support between male and female electronic artists, supporting events like this are more important to support than ever. Giving female musicians a voice is as important as giving women a voice in every other aspect of the world. It’s all happening on June 17th at OAF, with presale tickets for an insanely cheap 15 bucks from musicnsw.com, or you can risk grabbing them on the door for 20 bucks on the night.
