Moog Is Bringing Back One Of It’s Oldest And Most Iconic Synths

Words by Tanya Bonnie Rae

American engineer and electronic music pioneer Robert Moog was best known as the inventor of the Moog synthesizer and as the founder of music instrumental-manufacturing company Moog.

Moog has recently announced the reissuing of one of the companies’ earliest synths, the Synthesizer IIIC, in a limited run of 25 units. The 1960’s saw the release of the very first Moog synths – named the Synthesizer I, II, III and IIIC (the “C” referring to the walnut “console” cabinet).

Each individual Synthesizer IIIC is hand made, and comes complete with 36 hand-stuffed, hand-soldered modules, including 10 901-Series audio oscillators, the 984 Matrix Mixer, and the 905 Spring Reverb. These modules are then arranged into two hand-finished, solid walnut console cabinets at the Moog Factory located in Asheville, North Carolina.
