Floating Points Shares The First Taste Of Forthcoming Project

Words by Tanya Bonnie Rae

Sam Shepherd, otherwise known as Floating Points, has just released some fresh new material from his upcoming short film and soundtrack titled ‘Reflections – Mojave Desert’.

The seven minute piece ‘Silurian Blue‘ is the first taste of what to expect from the critically acclaimed composer, electronic musician and neuroscientist. He’s collaborated with the likes of Caribou and Four Tet, supported The xx through their string of sold out shows at Brixton Academy, as well as having played Glastonbury, Primavera, Pitchfork Festival Europe, and more recently – St Jerome’s Laneway Festival across Australia.

It will feature five previously unheard tracks and compositions, and is the first of a planned series of environmental recordings. The recordings were made last year, as Shepherd travelled to Mojave to rehearse in between touring the US. Throughout the filming, microphones were placed throughout the landscape to capture the natural sonic textured of the desert, to incorporate the sound of wind, a bird call and the rustling of bushes.

‘Reflections – Mojave Desert’ is released on Friday June 30th and will be available digitally and physically as LP + DVD or CD/DVD packages via Pod or Inertia Music.
