A Class Action Lawsuit Has Been Launched Against Falls Festival

The people who were injured during a stampede at Falls Festival, in have launched a class action lawsuit that could over $1-million.

The stampede, that saw 80 people hurt and 19 hospitalised, occurred at the Lorne festival over new years, when punters began to rush from one stage to another other after seeing local band DMAs in order to make it for London Grammar’s performance at the main stage.

Punters involved in the stampede suffered a range of different injuries such as fractured legs, pelvises and head injuries among others.

Brendan Pendergast of Maddens’ law firm is the man behind this class action law suit, launching it with the Victorian Supreme Court and telling triple j that “the allegation is that if proper care and attention had been taken to configuring the area where the acts were taking place and the scheduling of the successive acts, this stampede would not have occurred, that this was entirely avoidable.”

“That’s the basis of this action — predominantly in negligence of the organisers.”

Despite all of this along with the criticism they have been facing for poor planning; Falls Festival is still confident that it will go ahead at the end of 2017, and are cooperating with government body WorkSafe’s investigation.
