Soulection Are Touring Australia Next Month

Words by Harry McAuley

LA-based music collective Soulection are back in Sydney with another instalment of their Sounds of Tomorrow event. Teaming up with The Operatives and Astral People, Sounds of Tomorrow will feature a star-studded line up performing over four days in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane and Perth over the first weekend in March.

This year’s bill boasts international acts SOSUPERSAM, Jarreau Vandal and LAKIM, supported by a smattering of local producers. City of Angels resident SOSUPERSAM has cemented her position as a top producer and performer, opening for the likes of Erykah Badu and Little Dragon. Her heady vocals and futuristic production meld R&B, hip hop and electronica to create a unique, eclectic sound.

Joining her will be Dutchman Jarreau Vandal, whose funky bass lines and catchy rhythms blur the boundaries between experimental electronica, hip-hop and dance music. LAKIM’s work with fellow Soulection residents Sango and Mr Carmack, along with his solo projects, have thrust him into the electronic music limelight over the past few years. His style is characterised by shifting drum patterns, airy synths and chopped up soul samples that shift effortlessly between dance music and hip hop.
