Nicolas Jaar Is Publishing A Book Titled ‘Network’

Nicolas Jaar is always up to something interesting; be it releasing a new album, repurposing his record label, or, in this case, publishing a book.

The Chilean composer – who will be visiting Australia for a one-night-only soirée this May -is wasting no time in following up his last project, the 2016 record Sirens, with a book titled Network.

The project is currently in the works, but what we know thus far is that it will be published with the New York based Printed Matter as well as his own label Other People.

Content wise, Network will host “visual essays” and “text contributions” from the likes of Lydia Lunch, Linda van Deursen and Nico Jaar himself. It will also include design work from Jena Myung and Maziyar Pahlevan.

The concept for this book was born out of an experience Jaar had when he was offered a 6-month radio residency with BBC. Instead of curating DJ mixes, Jaar wrote a radio play that told the tale of a made-up DJ inside a “fake BBC-style radio world”. The idea was turned down by BBC, however it has spawned the concept for his Other People online radio station, that hosted 333 stations and over 20-hours worth of “fake” radio programs that were recited by voice actors.

The book will host transcripts of these radio shows and “gives theoretical consideration to the inherent political possibilities of radio broadcast.”

Network is currently available to pre-order now, with orders expected to ship out on March 23. There are only 1100 copies being made, so we suggest you act quick.
