Keep Sydney Open Rally Blocked By NSW Supreme Court

The planned Keep Sydney Open rally this Saturday in Kings Cross to protest lockout laws has hit a hurdle after the NSW Supreme court handed down it’s orders.

Although the rally was planned and approved January 1st, NSW Police Commissioner Andrew Scipione pushed through a court order just yesterday to stop the event.

Fresh from court proceedings today, Keep Sydney Open organiser Tyson Koh has expressed his dismay that the peaceful rally will not be able to be held in Kings Cross.

Taken from a Facebook live video it seems that the below reasons played a part in the decision;

  • Not enough access for medical services if roads were blocked
  • No traffic plans, toilets or police organised to host 5,000 – 7,000 people

The irony being Kings Cross used to host over 20,000+ punters weekend on weekend without much trouble and this being a peaceful protest against the archaic lockout laws that have crushed Sydneys nightlife,.

No word has been said yet if the rally will move elsewhere so follow the Keep Sydney Open Facebook page for updates.

Regardless… we should all head along anyway and enjoy a night in the cross with your Keep Sydney Open t-shirts on from 9pm.

Let’s do this!
