Coachella’s Owner Apparently Climate Change Denying Homophobe

Makes you think twice about buying that ticket, right? It turns out the boss man of the annual Coachella Music and Arts festival – Philip Anschutz – is not only anti-gay rights but anti-climate change. Two things, both shitty.

Anschutz is the owner of AEG, the world’s largest owner of sports teams and venues and one of the largest entertainment companies in the nation, with Coachella falling into that category. The scary part, the money he makes on his properties and sports teams (Coachella, The Lakers and The Clippers for example) he puts to dodgy use that you might not like to see.

According to The Washington Post, Anschutz has donated a tonne of money to anti-LGBT groups such as Alliance Defending Freedom, National Christian Foundation and Family Research Council; groups that seek to push back against gains made by LGBT people using lawsuits and lobbying.

Sound douchey? Well there’s more.

According to Greenpeace, Anschutz meets twice a year with the Koch brothers at their “strategy meetings.” We do not know what the outocme of these meetings are or exactly what they talk about, but it is obvious that Anschutz uses his media properties like the Washington Examiner to push far-right talking points like climate change denial, an action that certainly won’t have any effect on a festival held in California.

So with this knowledge, would you still be taking to Palm Springs this year? You can check the full lineup right here.
