Deadmau5 Says He Fears For His Life

While fame definitely has its perks and many aspire to it, there are aspects of fame that are just downright scary. Being in the minds and faces of so many people so frequently, especially in an age now dominated by social media, means that celebrities are exposed to an awful amount of abuse and some creepy stuff. Deadmau5, one of the most iconic figures in electronic music, has had his fair share of creepy stuff.

With his eighth album ‘W:/2016ALBUM/’ having just released, and a tour scheduled across the U.S. in March, he shared a number of stories about scary fans in an interview with NME.

“I get chicks on Instagram saying that I raped them and that they’re calling their lawyer. I do all my own s**it – Snapchat, Instagram, Twitter – and I see everything, every weird private message from every random psycho. I’m not shielded from anything… I get messages from dudes saying, ‘I’m gonna kill you at the show!’ And I’m like, ‘Well f**k – this could be it.”

None of these threats have come to fruition luckily, and Deadmau5 hasn’t had any such run-ins with anyone at his shows or court proceedings with women accusing him of rape. While America’s gun laws would understandably create an air of tension in large crowds considering the recent history of shootings and gun violence, you’d hope that the security would be able to deal with any threat before it even reached the venue.

While he seems concerned with his own safety, he did brush off an incident of almost killing someone however, albeit by complete accident.

“I nearly killed a kid once… I’ve never told this story. So I’m playing live, up in the Cube. I’ve got this LED helmet on, I’m six foot in the air, I can barely see. All of a sudden I hear my manager screaming in my earpiece, and I feel someone grabbing at my waist. This kid has somehow climbed up into the Cube. I just panic, I kick back at him, and he just drops and lands on his bck – bang. And he’s motionless. I take off my helmet and look down, and for what felt like a looong time I’m like, ‘I just paralysed or killed that kid.’ Then he finally bounces up and is all ‘Wooo!’ at the crowd. Never been so relieved in my life. Scary. But it’s like, what were you planning to do dude? Take over the show for me? Go for it, I get paid either way. Do what you gotta do, ruin the show.”
