Who are OWSLA’s Major Up-And-Comers?

Founded in by Skrillex in 2011, and co-founded by Tim Smith, Kathryn Frazier and Clayton Blaha, OWSLA is a label that has never stopped taking electronic music by storm. Now hosting events like OWSLA In The Park, racking up almost 4 mil followers on Soundcloud and a huge roster of artists, the label is making bigger strides now than ever before. While What So Not, Marshmello, Carmada and Skrillex himself are definitely their most well known faces, the OWSLA cohort are getting more and more impressive by the day. Here are our favourite OWSLA up and comers, one of whom happens to be playing a gig at Brisbane’s The Met this Friday!

STAR SLINGER

Having produced under the name for the last six years, Star Slinger is no newbie. Starting off producing hip-hop, some semi footstep and bass house means that he’s well versed in just about every genre. That fact shines through on his latest single ‘We Could Be More’, which is also the name of the EP he’s releasing this Friday.

MARK JOHNS

Mark Johns is a name and a voice you might have heard plenty of times before. She’s featured on tracks by a whole bunch of people in the Moving Castle collective, did a rework of ‘Ni**as in Paris’ with Perth dude Sable, and you might’ve heard her version of Yung Lean’s ‘Gatorade’ too. She’s just released her debut EP on OWSLA too – it’s called ‘Molino’. Big things to come no doubt.

JOSH PAN

From super spacey to some of the most intensely dirty trap you’ve ever heard, Josh Pan can do it all. With tracks filling up sets of people like RL Grime, he’s got a sound everyone wants to hear. He also puts little beats out on the regular, something we don’t get nearly enough of in this age of meticulously timed and prepared releases.

ANNA LUNOE

Anna Lunoe has been up and coming forever. She’s definitely already up, but there’s no question that she’s still going. She’s Australia’s best electronic export by far. Her latest single ‘Radioactive’ exploded the world over and everyone wants to show her the love she deserves. She’ll be back home super soon too, supporting Diplo around the country with Post Malone and her bff Nina Las Vegas.

ARYAY

Chicago local ARYAY has been relatively quiet for a while now. His last track ‘Vicious’ came out over a year ago, and so his newest single ‘Never Gonna Leave’ was a welcome surprise to his fans the world over. With such a long time between releases, is he hiding plenty of new material away for a rainy day? We can hope. Until then, he’ll also be showing us ‘Never Gonna Leave’ properly here at home. He’s playing a show this Friday the 2nd of December at The Met in Brisbane, alongside Sydney dude OSKI. Check the Facebook event here and get keen to experience some of that OWSLA reputation firsthand.
