Matt & Alex Are Leaving Triple J

After three years of soundtracking and narrating the breakfasts of countless Australians around the country, triple j’s Breakfast hosts Matt Okine and Alex Dyson have announced that they will be hanging up their headphones and stepping down from the show forever.

They unveiled the news on this morning’s show, in a teary farewell which they also used to praise the triple j listener-base for their constant support and relationship with the two hosts. Alex has announced he’d be spending his days travelling and trying his hand at writing, while Matt said he would be focusing on his acting and comedic career, as well as his hip hop side-project Boilermakers.

“After spending over a third of my life at triple j, I felt it was time to give someone else a go while I travel the world, do a bit of writing and wean myself off my addiction to new Australian music,” Dyson said.

“Before radio I actually studied an acting degree, so I figured I’d wait until my looks and hair had completely deteriorated before moving to the small screen,” Okine joked.

Check the full announcement in the excerpt from the show below. Best of luck to the both of the boys – no doubt we’ll be hearing plenty from them anyway – and exciting to see who will step up to the Breakfast plate.
