Pleasure Planet returns in November for a new string of events

The renowned Melbourne event Pleasure Plant (PP) is set to return for their 6th event for 2016, this one titled N Y X . PP has traditionally taken a slightly unorthodox approach to its events which is evident in their poem style event descriptions and mysterious event titles. To give you a gauge on the night and explore the meaning behind the curious names/poems, I asked Pat Woodley-Davis from the PP team a few questions.

FS: Pleasure Planet seems to follow a unusual style for running events in that you have poems for an event description. Could you explain the meaning behind the poem and the event title “N Y X”?

PWD: Nyx is the ancient Greek goddess of the night. With the unique setting of Platform One we wanted to make it a bit of a darker vibe for this party than some of the previous events (held at Lounge). The poetry is just an extension of incorporating different artistic elements to complement the party. We try and ensure that musical and artistic bookings all come together to suit the overall theme of each event.

FS: How did the event come about and when did you have your first party?

PWD: Our first party was April 2013, and we operated monthly for 3 years after then. After a little break this year we’ve come to Platform One at Banana Alley and looking forward to give it a good run. The party initially came about thanks to TUC*, he approached me and a few others with an opportunity at Lounge, and it just grew from there really.

FS: How would you describe the night yourself?

PWD: I’ve always said it’s like a doof in a club. We incorporate a lot of artistic elements outside of the musical programming, whether that’s installations or live visual art or performance art or dance and so on. People often dress creatively and given we regularly run well into the next day it’s easy to lose yourself.
