Sydney DJ/producer/personality and record connoisseur Kato has taken a stab at the shitty lockout laws through the art of music, uploading a nearly 2-hour long mix titled ‘Live From Within The Lockout Zone‘.

The local selector – who you have likely seen performing out and about or perhaps behind the counter at The Record Store in Surry Hills – uploaded the mix today in preparation for Sunday’s Keep Sydney Open rally, which is sizing up to be bloody massive.

Speaking on the mix, Kato writes:

“From The Lockout Zone” is a mix of records that stood out to me in the wake of the Sydney lockouts and their devastation of our cities nightlife. I made it a couple of months ago but it didn’t seem like the right time to put it into the world until the recent farcical Callinan enquiry findings we’re handed down and alongside the closure of Fabric in the UK. One particular recommendation of the Callinan report is that the definition of live music shouldn’t include DJ’s which is a very backwards view considering the landscape of modern music. The tracks hopefully speak for themselves in protest of our backwards government and these draconian laws but also offer escape, joy and hope for better times in the future.”
