Billy Davis Share ‘No Longer Lovers’ On Melbourne Imprint Good Manners

Words by Blake Gilray

Melbourne’s own Billy Davis have released a new single featuring Blasko Taleski called ‘No Longer Lovers’ via Good Manners.

The track focuses on a recurring sub line underneath the whole track which is dark and heavy within the R&B spectrum. Combine this with filtered minor chord stabs and harmonic vocal lines and you know you’ve got something great.

Blasko and Billy work wonders with the vocals providing both soulful hooks and rap vocals which add a story and harmonic layer to the whole production. All these parts are complimented by a jazz riff of brassy goodness featuring a trumpet and trombone which adds to the harmonic soul of the whole production.

All these elements together, be it from differing scenes and sub genres, really make this R&B tune unique in nature. Not only is it refreshing and pleasant to witness something like this, but it actually works, with each layer complimenting towards a final hook with all the elements in.

Definitely keep an eye out for these locals.
