Keep Sydney Open’s New Video Depicts How Lockout Laws Are Crippling Live Music

Yesterday you may have seen this article on the memorial plaques that have been popping up around closed Sydney nightspots.

The plaques, in short, were made to commemorate the venues that lost the battle against the lockout laws, and the artists whose careers spurred from playing in these venues back when they were still making names for themselves.

Keep Sydney Open, the group behind the big push to return Sydney to the thriving city it once was, have just shared a video that shows a little more insight into the way in which lockout laws have crushed our live music scene.

The video includes comments from Art Vs Science and Gang of Youths, as well as an unreleased track from Flume’s forthcoming EP.

It also shows the legends – including veteran selector Kato – who went around and mounted these plaques throughout the streets.

In response to the Callinan Review – that was published earlier in the month – Keep Sydney Open will be hosting another rally on October 9. If you care about Sydney nightlife and live music, then come along and show support. Read more here.
