Conan O’Brien Went To Berghain And People Are Pissed Off

Yesterday it was revealed that American TV personality Conan O’Brien went to Berghain.

Admittedly, we are curious to see where this goes, however Berghain regular The Black Madonna (Marea Stamper) has come out firing at the comedian’s efforts and she makes a seriously good point.

The Chicago based DJ shared a photo of O’Brien outside the renowned venue as he was “doing comedy”. This was followed by a handful of comments within the thread explaining why this is is not a good thing.

While responding to comments from fans, Stamper explains “I don’t need to know what he’s joking about to know that he’s taking millions of people into a space that is private for a good reason”.

“I’m not humorless about any subject. But turning a space like this into a comedy spectacle for a largely straight American audience with no context other than the club being private and gay is a problem.”

She continues with the topic of privacy for the Berlin nightclub, elaborating that “Taking your selfie out front is one thing. Conan is a comedian that millions of people watch nightly in a country on the verge of having Donald Trump for a president. That context matters.”

Don’t get me wrong, Conan is definitely a funny bloke, but there is a level of mystery with Berghain that is what lures real fans to it’s doors. Exposing the venue on primetime American television, however, would do far more damage than good for the venue, which is already potentially facing a development threat.

Not cool, Coco.
