The Ill Truth Behind The Avalanches Delayed Comeback

While most of us cheer for the return of The Avalanches, the question of why this long awaited comeback took so long comes to mind.

With their sophomore album ‘Wildflower’ available to stream in full via Apple Music with the official release set for this coming Friday (July 8th), the Melbourne based band have finally clarified exactly why this took over 15 years to come around.

The major factor which has left fans in shock was band member Robbie Chater’s health. Chater was diagnosed with several autoimmune diseases simultaneously, which left him and the band unable to work on music for a decent leg of time.

Speaking with Pitchfork, Chater said “There were… three years in the mid-2000s when I was really unwell… I was diagnosed with a couple of separate autoimmune diseases, so I was out of action.”

He added copyright issues with their debut LP ‘Since I Left You’ caused issues that put a stop to their music making.

“We had to make a lot of music to break through that perfection thing and really start to embrace all our imperfections,” he explained.

“As far as samples, they started clearing stuff years ago, but then there would be some hold-up and they’d have to go back and renegotiate. People would give permission for us to use the sample, and then a certain amount of time would elapse and they would Google who the band is and be like, ‘Oh shit, I can ask for more money’. That sort of thing took forever.”

Thankfully, all of this is in the past, and all of a sudden we have a new album from The Avalanches, which you can stream below.
