Benson Shares His 5 Favourite Tunes Of The year!

Benson has been known to come correct with the selections.

The Melbourne based producer/DJ has been a busy man of late, with a nationwide tour set to kick off this week in celebration of his new single ‘Step With Me’, that will also be a fundraising effort in order to help Australia’s homeless (learn more here).

As a one of the top dogs at Medium Rare Recordings and a veteran on the Aussie club circuit, we decided to pick his brain to find out what songs of 2016 (thus far) have been getting his feet tapping the most.

P.S. Don’t forget to get around to one of his shows over the next few weeks, kicking off tomorrow at and on Saturday at The Met in Brisbane.

1. Majid Jordan – Forever

I only started listening to Majid Jordan about 6 months ago, its a duo from Toronto.
One produces, the other sings (Pretty fucking handy hey ?). They’re signed to ya boi drakes label “OVO sound”  the production is so stripped back in the best possible way, its a great cross over between club & radio. They just dropped a album a couple of months ago. 100% check it out.

2. The Avalanches – Subway

Like a lot of people, I didn’t really vibe on Frankie Santra (The first single from the new album).
Yesterday i sat down and listened to the whole album from start to finish, it was like riding a rainbow, such a journey! This was my favourite song from the album at the moment.

3. Radiohead – Burn The Witch

Radiohead seem to be one of those bands that everyone listen’s to except me?
I never really got into their stuff to be honest, I didnt really even give it a listen.
Early this year, I started listening to a lot of bands which I “Should be into”.
Radio was on that list, not long after going through some of the back catalogue (Still have plenty to go) they dropped the new album. I really love everything about this, from the vocals to the strings to the film clip. It’s fucking EPIC!

4. Matt Black – Riot

5. Rufus – Innerbloom

For me, this is the modern day “In white rooms” by Bookashade.
When you talk about songs “bringing the feels” this was the first song that i thought of, its a stand out track from the bands 2nd album. I real appreciate the samples in the background & those pitch bended synths. The huge lead towards the end really takes the song to that next level, not to many songs go for 9 minutes these days, some people are affaird that the listener will loss interest. Definitely didnt loose interest on this one. FARKING TUNNNAAAA
