NSW Police Union are now unsure of Sydney Lockout Laws

The New South Wales Police Association may consider supporting changes to the Sydney Lockout Laws.

Association President Scott Weber recently confirmed that they would be in support of necessary changes, granted they do not incur a risk of drunken violence, including an extension on the current lockout time of 1:30am, The Daily Telegraph reported.

Mr. Weber also confirmed they are willing to discuss takeaway alcohol times. “If they’re going to have those conversations (around bottle shop closing and when lockouts start) we’re quite happy to have those conversations but it’s got to be on evidence. We’re willing to have a look.”

The news comes just days after the #MarchAgainstMike rally that saw thousands gather in Sydney’s Town Hall to express their frustration towards the State government.

What do you make of the NSW Police Union’s changed views on the lockout laws? Perhaps the lack of foot traffic in lockout zones may result in less Police presence, which – granted the nightlife is thriving – is something we do need.
