Argy Shares His Top 5 Tracks From 5 Different Dance Genres

Berlin-based Greek Argy is coming to Australia for the first time, and he has shared with Stoney Roads his top 5 tracks across 5 different dance genres.

Argy is widely recognised as one of the elite’s of the underground club scene, gaining releases on labels like Cocoon, Defected, and Objektivity, as well as collaborating on projects with artists such as The Martinez Brothers. The versatile DJ has mounds of experience under his belt, playing at the celebrated Panorama Bar since 20 years of age, as well as residencies at clubs such as Space, Amnesia, and Sankeys.

Luckily for us, we’ve got Argy’s personal picks of his top 5 tracks at the moment. His debut Australian tour dates are also below!

This record originally came out on Nuphonic, a UK label in 1996. You can also call this deep house but I use it as a disco break in my sets. It’s very trippy and the arrangement doesn’t rush. It feels like it’s from a slower paced time and it sounds dirty and very dynamic. Nowadays producers tend to over-compress their material. This is wild!

House: Paul Johnson – Something Strange

Paul Johnson on Dancemania! Nothing strange about that, but what a feeling. When I’m a bit bored of generic deep house I just put on this record and get inspired for a whole month. This creates unreal dancefloor vibrations!

Minimal: Melchior Productions Ltd – Liquid Moves

Thomas Melchior has been doing his own groove going for more than a decade. He uses sounds that everybody else use, but has a way to create a certain atmosphere and groove that, when you hear it, you know its him. He really inspired me around 2005, and I still enjoy his music as much as I did back then.

Classic Techno: Derrick May – Drama

I love Derrick’s drama in and out of the studio! When I hear this record It’s like having him in front of me talking about life. This man’s music is his life.

Peak Time Track: Jordan Peak – It’s Time (Argy Rude Dub)

Jordan Peak is a friend and a very nice guy. I did this remix for him a couple of years ago and a lot of people told me it’s a dance floor saviour. You can grab it from my ‘Chronographic’ release.
