Spitting Some Garlic With Sydney Legends Human Movement

As far as the Sydney techno scene goes these boys are fresh meat but believe us when we say they’re already sizzling.

Whilst most of us find ourselves tucked into bed in the early hours of Sunday morning, these young up and comers revel in the sweaty underground of some of Sydney’s most infamous late night hot spots and they love it.

Ahead of their headline gig this Saturday night at The Met, Brisbane we talk some absolute garlic with Eddie and Blake of Human Movement.

So your three-quarters of the way through your ‘Dancin Room’ Tour. How have you found it so far and how have the crowds been digging the new EP?

Yeah it’s been pretty amazing we’ve had some great feedback from our shows and can’t wait for the next few. The ep seems to be holding up well with the rest of the set which is great to see but it’s fair to say we are ready to start pushing our new music/sound.

We’ve got to say big up’s on selling out Civic Underground almost two weeks prior to your headline party. How does it feel been able to run your own night in Sydney and get such a positive response to it?

Thank you! Yeah we’re really stoked that we have had such amazing support in sydney from the get go. We were pretty shocked that we sold out the venue. This is our first time where we’ve had complete control of organising an event so it’s really cool too be able to pick what we think would be best for the night especially having the opportunity to pick such amazing artists to play aside. It’s been a semi stressful yet really fun experience!

On the flipside the lockouts in Sydney have forced a lot of venues to shut up shop. Have you found it frustrating the scene has changed or is it just evolving?

It’s an interesting one because we’re still going out and partying just as much as we use to but i think Sydney youth are finding ways to beat the system whether its throwing a day party at a venue that goes into the night or throwing illegal parties. Theres so many collectives popping up hear and there that are really sort of starting a movement for throwing amazing beach, warehouse or bunker parties in Sydney bypassing these lockout laws and allowing us to maintain the standard of partying that we use to have.

You’ve got the likes of Andy Garvey, Sonderr and Nutrition playing at your own party. What selectors have been impressing you lately ?

Yeah we’re pretty flattered that they all agreed to jump on board. Obviously all of the above we think have great taste. Ben Fester and Adi Toohey too we think always play amazing sets.

You boys always seem to whip out something huge every time we’ve seen you, your playing The Met, Brisbane this weekend. What secret weapons can we expect hiding on those USB’s?

Ooo we just went on a big download spree for some new tunes but we’ve been pumping some dense & pika recently especially their remix of “it’s alright” by Nocturnal Sunshine. Also Peter Horrevorts “Rook” has got that perfect blend of techno percussion and a house chord progression.

We saw you guy’s hooked up with the big dog himself SAVAGE backstage at Roar Music Festival. When can we expect the collar ?

Hahaha unfortunately a collab is not in the works with the big bad Savage. We just saw him backstage and it took us back to house parties when we were 13 and “swing” was getting pumped through iPod speakers so we thought we better jump on that photo opportunity.

On a more serious note, can we expect some more music from you boy’s this year?

Yeah definitely we have so much unreleased music ready to go but first and foremost we’re aiming to get a 2 track EP out hopefully sometime next month.

Expect more of the gritty basslines and hard hitting snares that have seen the likes of Skrillex’s own OWSLA label debut a guest mix from the lads. Catch the movement in full effect this Saturday at The Met, Brisbane or Melbourne and Sydney in the coming weeks.
