SoundCloud’s latest partnership announcement is set to offer users access to free mastering via their streaming platform.

Teaming up with LANDR, an online music optimization and mastering service, SoundCloud have taken yet another step towards establishing themselves as the number 1 platform for music creators since the inception of their paid subscription service, SoundCloud Go.

Launched last year, LANDR has received huge backing and markets itself as the place to find “a quality finish like any major label artist [but] with a budget.” This is a brilliant development for creators and consumers alike.

There is a catch though…

The partnership between the two companies doesn’t provide access to the entire catalogue of LANDR services; rather, it only optimizes tracks specifically for the streaming service.

That means that users wanting MP3 or WAV formats will need to dig deep into the pockets and cough up if they want copies of their own rather than just an improved online stream.

Even still, better quality makes for a better product right? Only time will tell if this move is truly successful, but for listeners, better sound is surely a welcome change.
