Are SoundCloud prepping to block all uncleared DJ mixes?

Rumours that have been circulating are reporting that Soundcloud are set to crackdown on mixes and remixes which contain uncleared music.

Digital Music News claim that a source close to Soundcloud told the site that restrictions are about to be put in place with the company planning to block all DJ mixes that aren’t fully cleared, with a Soundcloud representative stating, “I don’t think DJ’s are going to be happy.”

Soundcloud has since reported to the speculation, telling Billboard “there’s no truth in the story.” A representative for the company stated, “At SoundCloud, we’re on a mission to create a place where all creativity can live. SoundCloud’s creator community, including DJs, is incredibly important to us.”

The popular online audio distribution platform Soundcloud has been making numerous changes as of late, including paid subscriptions and their new Stations feature.

Earlier this year, Soundcloud introduced a new paid service called SoundCloud Go, which looked to be an attempt to keep up with Apple Music and Spotify’s algorithm-based radio features. Shortly after, a series of deals with Sony, Universal and Warner happened, alongside a site-wide removal of content that were flagged over copyright claims.
