PREMIERE: 3föur – ‘Drop Da Ancha’ + Interview

I’m always on the look out for a fresh face in the bass music scene, and 3föur presented himself to me, with a fresh new original track and an awesome attitude and outlook toward his promising career in music.

‘Drop Da Ancha’ is full of heavy bass and reggae vibes, with clever sound design and a kind of old ‘Datsik’ vibe. As a whole, it’s a fucking decent dubstep banger.

We checked in with the legend 3föur to talk about his plans for the future, and his birth into the deep, dark and dangerous world of bass music.

Stoney Roads: Hey there 3föur! Tell us a little about yourself?

3föur: Hey I’m 3föur and I’m a 20 year old  music producer out of Queensland, Australia. I try not to label my music under one specific genre but I pull a lot of influence from dubstep, drum & bass & trap music.

SR: You’re sharing your brand new track ‘Drop Da Ancha’ with us today, tell us a little about the creative process behind this one.

3föur: This was a really cool track to make actually, it started off as just a break with a vocal chop with some drums and synths. Then about 6 months later I was going back through old projects, I had a listen to it and it just instantly clicked in my head what to do with the track and the rest is history.

SR: What’s your musical background? How’d you find yourself producing?

3föur: My musical journey started at before I can even remember since my entire family are musicians as well. I found myself playing instruments at a really young age, I went through a couple of instruments but could never stick to one thing, then when I was about 13 I lost a lot of interest in playing music but was still around it so much due to my family. Then 16 year old me discovered dance music and I was instantly fascinated with it and how it was created so shortly after I downloaded my trial version of Fruity Loops onto my parents computer and haven’t looked back since.

SR: Who/what are your main influences when you write music?

3föur: The guys that really influence me are the guys who work extremely hard to stand out, whether it be revolutionizing a new genre or just having amazing sound design. The guys that really stick out for me have to be Kill The Noise, Koan Sound, Noisia, Must Die & of course, the dude that changed the game forever, Skrillex.

SR: What do you think will set you apart from other producers?

3föur: I like to think my sound design & genre blending will set me apart, now its easier than ever for people to get their hands on presets and samples that all the big producers are using and a lot of bass music is starting to sound the same to me, so I think it’s so important to make your own sounds and have your own style more than even now so you can stand out from all the other producers.

SR: Who do you dream of working with?

3föur: I could sit here and list 10,000 producers who would be cool to work with but there’s a few vocalist I’d love to get into the studio with like Jarren Benton, Foreign Beggars or the rapper from Linkin Park & Fort Minor, Mike Shinoda. But if I had to pick one producer I think I’d have to go with Twine, he’s extremely diverse in his music like myself and I think together we could make something completely fresh.

SR: What’s your favourite song to open a set with?

3föur: This is such a tricky question because my sets always change and evolve, I’ve always feel like your first track has to make a good impression or you lose some of the crowd so I 95% of the time play an unreleased track from either myself or  a close homie of mine to really get the crowd hooked and be like ‘wooooah, what’s that track?’

SR: Where can we catch you play?

3föur: I’ve got a few gigs coming up around the country this year but next up you can catch me and some of my hunger squad homies on the 25th on June at Movidas in Mackay.

SR: What are your plans for your future in producing bass music?

3föur: I don’t really any plans yet, I’m just going with the flow at the moment, but one of my long term goals as a musician has always been to write an album, I’ve always been obsessed with the concept of this piece of music that tells a story start to finish.

SR: What can we expect from you next?

3föur: Well I’ve got a a lot of new music to drop over  the next couple of months. I’ve been experimenting with even more genres recently and I wrote my first house tune not too long ago so expect that one soon as well as a few collab’s. The first’s a real heavy trap collab with my bae ‘Don’t Care’ & the other a kinda future/hip hop beat with a real dope Brisbane rapper called September.

You can keep up to date with 3föur via his Facebook and his labels Soundcloud.
