New Film Reveals The Middle East’s Burgeoning Techno Scene

It’s no secret that the Middle East has a keen interest in electronic music, particularly when considering they’re regularly exposed to scenes like ">this.

But a new film from director, Susanne Regina Meures, titled, “Raving Iran” is set to expose the not-so-public trials and tribulations of producers involved in these underground cultures.

The film, which tracks the plight of two DJ’s from Tehran who are persecuted by authorities for their involvement in the rave scene, is an expose on not only the thriving popularity of a discouraged musical culture, but also the struggles of up and coming artists in Iran.

While it has no official release dates as yet, “Raving Iran” is being toured internationally at a variety of film festivals. Take a look at the trailer and check out the film festival schedule below:

Festival dates:

15-24th April – Vision du Reel, Nyon

28-8th May – Hot Docs, Toronto

5-15th May – DOK.fest, Munich

12-18th May – Bel Docs, Belgrade
