Liquid Filled Records Are Not An ‘Alien’ Concept

What are we getting at, you ask? The people at Mondo have released their special edition liquid filled ‘Aliens’ record.

In celebration of ‘Alien Day’, Mondo have made 75 copies of James Horner’s ‘Aliens‘ soundtrack, that are filled with green goo (see below). The records were an exclusive and very limited addition to the ‘Alien Day’ pop up store that happened yesterday in Austin, Texas.

In order to create these gooey records, Mondo consulted with liquid vinyl specialist Curits Godino, who says each record took over an hour to make.

“Since I make each vinyl one by one, the process is very time consuming and tedious; there are three stages which take a little over an hour per record. But the up side about doing each one is that I can make sure they are perfect. The obvious issues that are always brought up are leaks and evaporation.

I use a special type of resin to seal the records which has kept my oil wheels sealed without leaks for years. Also, I am not using water inside the records, so the viscosity of the liquid and the fact that it is air tight assures that the liquid will not evaporate. Hopefully that will calm the skeptics a little.”

Unfortunately, it looks as though these records won’t be very easy to get your hands on. However, Godino is sure to make more in the future, so for admire admire this gif of the final product. Happy Alien Day!
