Jimmy2Sox Talks What’s Next For Dance Music Worldwide

When trying to figure out the sometimes foggy future of dance music it’s often best to talk to the guys doing it right.

Cue Jimmy2Sox, one half of Australia’s greatest exports Flight Facilities who have been behind countless number one singles while also conquering the world with their brand of easy-toned and upbeat disco-house numbers.

In preparation of a solo DJ set Friday at the newly launched Make Me parties he gave us an insight of what he see’s is happening and more importantly what is next for dance music globally.

SR: What do you think is next for dance and electronic music world wise?

J2S: I can’t help feel in the dance world a more minimal approach is coming around again. The influx of the “deep house” genre feels like its had its day in the sun ie: is being played commercially as we speak so therefore, on the way out. Even in America “EDM” is fading out and people are getting over the whole “wall of sound” thing. It’s really interesting to watch!

SR: Will any particular sounds be championed or will it be a free for all?

J2S: Someone will arise from the darkness for sure, but I have no idea who or what that will be.

SR: Could there will be another golden era of AUS dance/electronic music?

J2S: We’ve had 2 inside a decade with the Electro scene of the mid 2000’s led by the Bang Gang dj’s and friends. Lately its been about Future Classic and the acts associated getting a lot of the spotlight both locally and internationally. I feel like Australia is always pushing the line in innovation and creation.

SR: So you used to play the terrace as a DJ back in the day? what can people expect from you up there for Make Me on Friday?

J2S: A little deeper and darker but the same energy as when I was a whipper snapper! I hope that will never change 🙂

SR: Has dance/electronic music lost any of it’s exclusiveness?

J2S: Dance will always be exclusive, it just sets itself up like that. There’s always the cool guys doing the cool thing and there’s always people chasing and imitating. I feel like the level of mainstream has come right up, some of the dance songs playing on the radio are awesome. I feel like this is one of the first eras where we’ve seen a real grey area in that. It’s really cool to be a part of.

SR: What are a few essential things to make a good party?

J2S: A unified crowd.

To catch Jimmy2Sox going at it solo be sure to pop through to Make Me this Friday night alongside Frames, A-Tonez, SPORTS and more.
