SoundCloud Set To Release Paid Subscription Service Next Week

SoundCloud Go is the is SoundCloud’s newest offering in direct competition with Spotify, Apple Music and the rest of the streaming world. SoundCloud has been trying to provide a number of new services recently in order to keep interest from the public but this is set to take SoundCloud to another level (well so they reckon). For the slim price $9.99 a month we get ad-free streaming, offline capability and the real kicker, the ability to stream tracks from mainstream artists right alongside tracks from unsigned artists.

If you do not want to pay for this, don’t fret! Soundcloud will still offer over 110 million free songs via its original site like it always has.
In comparison with Spotify’s 30 million paid songs, SoundCloud Go only offers up a total of 15 million. SoundCloud Go users will still need to compile their own playlists in order to have continued streamed listening while other streaming services offer readily available playlists created by artists and users.

It is easy to question the value of a $9.99 a month subscription, but let’s not forget that SoundCloud is still the go-to place to stream music from emerging and unsigned artists, as well as the best mixes from around the world. After being around for nine years now and still not seeing a profit it is easy to see why SoundCloud are having a crack at this. Personally, I think any move away from charging artists for the right to stream and towards charging us, the listener, can only be a good thing for the industry.

If SoundCloud can keep supplying the same level of good quality, new musical talent that they always have, then we should be enjoying the site for years to come. Good luck to them.
