One Australian City Now Has A Synthesizer Museum

Have you ever wanted to try out and record using an expensive synth which has just been completely out of your league? Well thanks to MESS (Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio) you might be able to do just that.

The not-for-profit created by Robin Fox and Byron J Scullin have just opened a new studio in North Melbourne, that hopes to be an interactive museum wherein you can trial discontinued and rare synthesizers of all shapes and sizes.

“We want it to be like a museum, but one where you can use and touch everything,” Byron J Scullin said to Broadsheet.

“And also like a gym – come down and work out on a synth.”

While the memberships are limited to just 500 people at the current time, the aim is not solely at old synth heads, but also possible new lovers of the electronic music craft.

The membership will set you back $220 a year, but will allow you to book, for another small fee, an instrument for you and a guest for up to four hours at a time.

So what do you think, will you be heading to Melbourne soon to sign up? You can apply for membership to MESS here.
