M83 Announce New Album / Australian Tour / Release Single ‘Do It, Try It’

It’s been quite a while since we’ve heard much of Frenchman Anthony Gonzalez, aka M83. Last album ‘Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming’ was released all the way back in 2011 to some pretty peak chart positions worldwide, and a few singles for movie soundtracks in the two years following. But now, the drought is over, with Gonzalez today announcing the release of his latest album ‘Junk’ on April 8th, premiering the first single ‘Do It, Try It’, and also revealing a national tour of Australia. It’s a lot to take in, we know.

Though with previous albums, M83 has become known for the combination of genres, often drawing on nostalgic sounds and themes, Gonzalez has said that with ‘Junk’ he’s doing things he’s never done before. “All my albums have layers of eclecticism to them, but with this album I wanted to take that even further.” You can get a taste of it by listening to ‘Do It, Try It’ down below, which premiered on BBC Radio 1 as Annie Mac’s Hottest Record In The World. It’s a constantly evolving track, moving from electro-funk to rock opera level in an instant. Gonzalez plays with vocal movement as he always does, over some classic driving synths, as well as pianos and strings. It’s only one of 15 different tracks, which Gonzalez has also released all the names of, and you can read further down.

To tie in with the release of ‘Junk’, M83 are visiting Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane to show it all off live. You can preorder the album here, get tickets 9am March 7, check dates and tracklisting below, and let M83 completely take over your Wednesday. It’s bound to be a good one.
