Interview: Luude

Today we had a chance to sit down with Perth producer Christian Benson aka, “Luude,” who’s been making more than a fair bit of noise on the beat scene in the last few weeks. His recent single Cortex (free download) was collaboratively dropped via imprints Buygore and Die High, and has since received support from Riff Raff and Beats1 Radio starlet Anna Lunoe. Fellow Perth producers Slumberjack have gone on record calling Luude the next wave of Australian producer. If his early output is anything to go by …..we’ll grab our boards!

So, what’s your background and how did you get into producing?

So I’m originally from Tasmania and moved over to Perth nearly two years ago. I come from a pretty musical background, my dad absolutely shreds guitar so I picked up the drums when I was little playing in a couple of high school bands. I got into producing  nearly two years ago after I was watching an Avicii video on youtube and thought that shit looked cool, so I got FL studio and have been hooked ever since.

Your sound is definitely something fresh, it’s almost as if you’ve evolved that Carmack sound producers are emulating into a newer territory. Is pushing that creative boundary something we can expect from you in future?

Yea lately I’ve been trying to do something different with every track. So my latest release on buygore was more focused on that super wonky sound whilst incorporating some cool sound design. Then this next track I’m working on is a remix where i’m going for way more epic melodies and emotional feels to the track. So i guess I’m trying to switch it up nearly every song so i’m constantly learning and evolving.

If you could collaborate with any 5 people in the world right now who would they be?

1.Dj Khaled

2.Skrillex

3.Enshcway

4.Porter Robinson

5.Martin Garrix

What are your “go to” opening and closing tunes for a set?

I usually like to start my set more with more of a hip hop vibe at a slower bpm and work my way up.

Yung Gud – U Want Me x Hard in the Paint

Flume – Left Alone feat. Chet Faker (Gravez x Ta-ku Re-remix)

For a closing tune it will either be a wonky trap beat or something epic – these are some tunes that I always play at the end of my sets.

Lookas – Apollo

Enschway & Luude – Timezone

Probably will be meeting my housemates for a team meeting in the lounge room and remembering that I have already saved a burrito in the fridge for this exact moment

What’s the best thing on Youtube right now?
