How to run a Podcast with Doslyf and Noy

Brisbane DJ’s Doslyf and Noy are the brains behind Revelry Radio’s increasingly popular monthly podcast.

Despite having rather different musical tastes, these two guys – who will be taking over The Met this Saturday – run a killer show, chocka-block with good music. They spoke with us on how they got started with their podcasts, their solo work, lockout laws and what they having coming up for 2016!

Stoney Roads: How long have you boys been running the podcast for? How did it start out?

Doslyf: Getting close to about 6 months now. We were working on different marketing ideas and this seemed like a great way to reach our target audience

Noy: We’ve been running the Podcast for about 6 months now. It started out by myself and Dos just discussing ideas on building the Revelry brand (Where we work) and since we are good mates and we work in the office together we thought it would be a good to work together and get something kicking.

SR:What were some of the highlights of last year’s podcasts?

D: Definitely our absolute rubbish chat. We generally do the show when we’re extremely hung over or while we’re at the venue half cut.

N: Highlights of the podcast would definitely be the shit chat we have through out the shows, so pretty much all of it haha.

SR: Are there any artists you guys are hoping to get on the podcast for chat/mix in 2016 that you can fill us in on?

D: Met has an absolute massive line-up of artists coming through this year. Plan is just to record the rubbish chat the goes on in the green room pre / post gigs.

N: Well for me that would be any of the Trap artists coming through, hopefully some are down to get on it, there are some HUGE acts coming through.

SR: Aside from the podcast, you both have your own individual projects in Noy and Doslyf. What were some of the things you guys are working on for 2016?

D: Mainly just DJ under the name Doslyf. Currently put out tunes under the name ‘Varcity’ with one of my good mates Reuben. We’ve got plenty of work in the pipeline for 2016. Latest E.P drops on micropope next week.

N: Individually I’m working on a lot of new music, I have some singles lined up for this year, so I can’t wait to share them with everyone and hopefully tour to promote the releases!

SR: How long have you two known each for? How do you find working with each other on Revelry radio? You seem to have good some solid radio banter!

D: Seems like forever now. I remember him playing his first gig and absolutely killing it. We’ve always smashed a couple of drinks when running into each other but now we work pretty close together so have become pretty tight.

N: I’ve known Dos since I started djing, he actually played at my very first club gig. So a fair while, we’ve had a solid amount of party days together.

SR: You both have have different preferences of dance music, Noy more so trap and Doslyf more-so House. It works really well however with your podcast. Why do you think that is?

D: Gives the podcast some diversity. We both like all types of music but generally stick to our preferences. Some weeks Noy comes in with a killer house tune I’ve never heard of and blows my mind.

N: I think it works well because it gives the podcast a bit of diversity. So rather than throwing on a podcast in which it’s just all trap or just house, it can appeal to a broad crowd and even educate them on new styles and what not.

SR: It’s a locals night this Saturday at The Met, you guys are both on headline duties, are you looking forward too it? How do the crowds up in Brissy go? Are you two local heroes haha?

D: hahaha local héros.. Noy Definitely is.. Brisbane froths on Noy. Brisbane crowd is amazing and seems to becoming a little more educated. Its hard to find a weekend that doesn’t rock at the Met these days. Every weekend is better than the last.

N: Dos is definitely a huge local hero. 😛 But the crowds up here are awesome, I love the Brisbane/Met crowd. I think this Saturday will be awesome with predominantly trap/bass music in the main room and house in coco, which again gives everyone that comes to the Met a diversity of music to get down to (Like the podcast). I’m really excited as it’s always a crazy night when ever we play at The Met.

SR: As Brisbane based DJ’s, what do you guys make of the current lockout law situation?

D: uhhhhh don’t get me started. The problem is not with the venues. Its a much bigger problem. I could write an essay on this

N: I think that it’s a load of shit with what they want to bring in. Honestly. I think there is a different underlying issue in which they are trying to cover up by just saying it’s because of nightclubs/alcohol etc. There are many other MAJOR factors that aren’t being addressed in which they should be.

SR: What are each of your favourite tracks right now to play in your sets? (if you can drop a link that’d awesome!)

D: Gave this a run last weekend and it went crazy.

Get Real (Claude Vonstroke & Green Velvet) – Mind Yo Business

N: Favourite track to play in my set right now, that’s a hard one! Hmmmmm, here’s three:

KRNE x JUPE – Apollo

Slumberjack – Enigma ft. GRRL PAL

DJ Snake – Propaganda

Listen to some of the guys’ previous podcasts below, and remember to head along to their headline show at The Met this Saturday!
