The Meeting Tree – ‘Your Personality Is An Extension Of Your Music And Vice Versa’

Australian duo The Meeting Tree know a thing or two about presence, in a very short time they’ve earned a trove of fans with their jangly electronic output and with it hilarious and often candid honesty… not to mention their off the wall videos.

That’s why given the chance we dived into the world of music with the larger than life characters to talk the current scene, indie versus major label backed artists, sharing your personality and of course the Australian sound directly from the ‘Godfathers of EDM’.

SR: Is there any notable difference in the Australian sound? Does it exist?

R: The Australian accent, PC music references and people swacking cashmere cat and whatever hudson mohawke was doing for 5 minutes 2 years ago.

J: A true revolutionary would replace the bed squeak with the “ee-or” of a donkey.

SR: Do you find yourself drawn to locals or internationals at a music festival? Why?

R: Don’t really think about it, just the good stuff regardless.

J: I find myself drawn to kush.

SR: Do you think its important to have a personality to make it as a successful artist?

R: Your personality is an extension of your music and vice versa. We hear musicians complaining about having to do “social media”. Don’t even worry about it, just be yourself. Social media shouldn’t be hard, it should be fun. You’re a creative person, just use it as a creative outlet.

J: I just got promised a PlayStation 4 because I’m a sickunt.

SR: What differences, if any are there between in independent and label backed artists?

R: I have no idea where the line is differentiating between the 2.

J: I met Samantha Jade last night. That’s the difference.

SR: Should Australians head overseas to further their career or is ‘home’ the place to be?

R: Australians should do whatever the hell they want.

J: I just watched a pack of komodo dragons eat a water buffalo. Fuck u think, I’m not leaving redfern for a minute.

SR: Is there anything you disagree with in the Australian music scene?

R: The haters.

J: Commercial radio’s refusal to play the best music.

SR: What era of Australian music do you think was the golden years?

R: Right now, why the hell not.

J: the week of December 11, 2015.

SR: THE PLOT embraces community, how important is community to you?

R: We are in a group called One Day with people we have known for 15 years so pretty important.

J: I’m friends on fb with some guy thats a part of rotary five dock. It looks lame AF. Moral is, choose ur community wisely.

The Meeting Tree will be playing at The Plot this year alongside a heap of talent including UV Boi, SAFIA, Friend Within, Basenji, Tkay Maidza and plenty more December 5th.
