LUCIANBLOMKAMP Releases Video For ‘From Afar’

Ahead of the release of his sophomore album “Bad Faith” early next year, Melbourne’s own LUCIANBLOMKAMP has just last week released the video for his latest, From Afar, as well as announcing a number of tour dates to support the single.

For an artist and a track with so many co-existing layers, the video clip is incredibly minimal and static – a style that works completely in its favour. The vision of a woman slowly breaking further and further down, is perfectly soundtracked by Blomkamp’s building synths and echoing vocal work, with climaxes taking place simultaneously in sight and sound. Though we’re given no context, From Afar does the perfect job of helping us to create our own stories, of this disconnected woman struggling through her day-to-day.

“The track is about feeling disconnected from other people, and while some of our initial thoughts were very external, we wanted to see what would happen if our character kept her turmoil within herself. This leaves the viewer to decide what’s going on in the character’s head, let alone what has happened to her to lead to this outcome.” – Director Tess Hutson

The video is equally eerie and breathtaking – not to mention the incredible production values. Though I found myself loving the build and the melancholy workings of From Afar when it first came out, this brings whole new meaning to what was already a journey of a track. Later this month will see LUCIANBLOMKAMP kick off on his ‘From Afar’ East Coast Tour, as well as playing Strawberry Fields in November.

The video clip leaves you on a pretty melancholy note, but it’ll no doubt move the crowd very differently in the live setting. Jump on tickets here, no doubt they’ll sell out super quick.
