From Trance to Trap – Aero Chord Interview

Hailing from Greece, Alex Vlastaras, aka Aero Chord, was breaking out bangin’ future trap tracks before dance music lovers even knew of his existence. As one of the most notable producers on Monstercat, Aero Chord’s high-energy and aggressive trap sound has gained support from Skrillex, Flux Pavilion, DJ Snake, Safari, Diplo, and more. Most notably, his track “">Surface” has been a huge hit on Youtube and has been used in FIFA Opening videos and the Need for Speed gameplay demo at the Electronic Entertainment Expo 2015. Pretty sweet, huh? Check out what Aero Chord had to say about his unfinished trance tracks and his new Above and Beyond remix “Fly To New York.”

SR: On average, how long does it typically take you to master a track?

AC: It’s really dependent on a lot of things, but it’s typically anywhere from 10 minutes to 2 days. It’s a simple process but I might get stuck fixing details for longer than needed trying to perfect the track.

SR: What track (remix or original) of yours are you most proud of and why?

AC: My latest original 4U. I love playing it live and I love every part of it!

SR: You started off making trance, do you have any unfinished projects that you still mess around with?

AC: Ha, no unfortunately these are all long gone. Doesn’t mean that I don’t still love trance though!

SR: Describe your creative process when remixing Above and Beyond’s “Fly To New York?”

AC: I tried to rework it into something new keeping pretty much just the vocal line and basically reimagining the whole track. It was definitely a fun project to work on!

SR: What (in your opinion) is your greatest strength as a producer?

AC: I would say my mixdowns, my 808s, and my fills are my strongest suits. I also have built a lot of confidence in my mastering abilities.

SR: What beverage would you use to describe your music?

AC: Definitely something with some serious energy, like Monster Energy drink… 500 ml.

SR: Outside of the electronic music world, who are some of your favorite artists?

AC: I listen to stuff pretty much all over the place. Some of which would be like Linkin Park, System of a Down , The Weeknd , Wiz Khalifa , Tyga and almost every hip hop artist ever.

SR: What is your favorite movie soundtrack?

AC: Such a hard question!! I can’t choose but it’s either the Pirates of the Caribbean or Interstellar. I just love Hans zimmer.

SR: Do you have any preshow rituals?

AC: Nothing really too over complicated really, I usually drink some red bull in the green room and try to talk myself out of the pre-show anxiety usually.

SR: What’s your favorite Pokemon?

AC: Mewtwo!
