Darcy Baylis releases new single, ‘Envelopes’ accompanied by his other-worldly video debut

The world’s answer to emo house, Darcy Baylis has released his new single, ‘Envelopes‘. A distinctively emotional house ballad, it is harshly juxtaposed against it’s more clinical visual accompaniment.

A white-washed room, featuring Baylis at the forefront, sees an almost other-worldly cast of dancers and actors exist unbeknownst to each other as chaos ensues. Directed by Melbourne’s Ling Ang, the narrative of disorder is cleverly interwined all while remaining aesthetically beautiful throughout. The heartbreaking lyrics pound against the pristine white walls in a juxtaposition of sorts, bouncing off the steely gazes as Baylis pours his heart out.

Art direction from Kish Lal sees a mixture of beauty and mess all culminate towards the end in a downward spiral of hurt, sadness and emotion. The video ends much how it started, although the air in the room has changed and rather than it being the calm before the storm, there lingers a stillness that can only exist after the damage is done.

Darcy Baylis plays two upcoming shows in Melbourne, with the release of his upcoming three-track EP, due later this year via Downtime.

Friday, August 14 – Cool Room @ Hugs and Kisses, Melbourne
Saturday, August 15 – OXJAM x I OH YOU @ Shadow Electric, Melbourne
