Wordlife Weigh In On Ten Walls Debate

In the lead up to their performance at Chinese Laundry alongside LO’99 and GT, we caught up with Sydney based two piece house heads Wordlife to discuss some BIG topics within the realms of dance music at the moment. The duo chat everything from what they’re working towards to who’d they’d dream to work with as well as THAT Ten Walls fiasco and more. Here’s what they had to say.

There’s been a little break in releases from Wordlife – what’s in the works in the second half of 2015?

We have actually been very busy in the lab writing a whole bunch of new songs which will start to see the light in the next couple of months. It’s a bit of a sonic departure from the wordlife you know but we’re very excited to share it with the world

What direction is your music heading in 2015?

Low slung psychedelic techno with nods to late 90’s electronica.

What are both your favourite video game?

We children of the 90’s
Adam – NBA Jam. If anyone has got one I will swap my Street Fighter 2 arcade machine for it!
Barney – Legend of the mystical ninja on Super Nintendo where you eat sushi, from Irv’s Char-cheddar sushi joint, to become a more powerful ninja

What did you think of the whole situation that unfolded with Ten Walls?

Here’s the thing with Ten Walls – if you like house music you have to understand that it is deeply rooted in gay disco culture so to make ignorant sweeping remarks like he did is a fundamental insult to the rich history and culture of dance music. House music and dance music culture in general is all about freedom, acceptance and togetherness based on a common love for the music if you can’t understand that find something else to do with your weekends. And while we’re on this topic ANYONE who’s in love should be allowed to marry each other.

If you could pick a vocalist anywhere in the world to work with, who would it be?

Who’s your favourite Aussie producer at the mo and why?

Hubert Clarke Jnr makes unique reconstructed freaky house and techno music that I can listen to for days. He also has a great live show and a compelling record collection. Check out his upcoming release on 100% Silk for some serious vibes.

you can catch Wordlife this Saturday the 4th of July at Chinese Laundry
