6 Of The Biggest Australian Dance Music Releases of 2015… So Far

It’s been a good year for dance music and we’re only half way through it. We could try collating the best worldwide but we’re a little bias to whats happening here in Australia so we penned six of our favourite dance music releases of the year… so far.

They don’t really fall into any particular category or sound so as long as there are electronic and an EP or LP they pass the test for what’s getting hammered at home, during work, on the radio or in the clubs.

Think we missed any? Tell us in the comments for a final wrap at the end of the year.

Golden Features – ‘XXIV’ EP (Warner)

We’ve been raving about the sophomore EP from Golden Features this week after the entire thing landed online for streaming. Two singles had already left their mark in the run up to the release but the final tracks really solidified this output from the Sydney producer as some of his best within the realms of booming electronic almost electro sounds.

Oisima – ‘Nicaragua Nights’ LP (Create/Control)

A fairly under-hyped album from the Adelaide producer but that shouldn’t take anything away from the quality release from Oisima.

The whole ‘Nicaragua Nights’ LP is enchanting as it is deep with solid, soulful vocal features and plenty of resonating roaming basslines while at times, off-kiltered beats constantly grab, push and pull you.

Slumberjack – ‘Slumberjack’ EP (Onelove)

More club based goodness from Perth lads Slumberjack who’s self-titled EP out on Onelove certainly found them some new fans. It wasn’t just the lead single “Body Cry” featuring Father Dude leaving its mark either with “Horus” also a stomper of a trap tune and in-turn some badass remixes.

Ta-Ku – ‘Songs To Make Up To’ EP (Future Classic)

Ta-Ku knocked his new EP ‘Songs To Make Up To’ out of the park with it yet more piano driven, beats-y goodness that’ll either get you into the sack or on the way to doing the horizontal tango.

With features from soon to be Australian tourer JMSN, Sango and Jordan Rakei it’s got a nice balance of instrumental and vocal led stuff both driving.

Hermitude – ‘Dark Night Sweet Light’ LP (Elefant Traks)

There’s a lot of love for Hermitude in Australia and for good reason, they are the epitome of work and party. When they aren’t flooring fans in their live format they are in the studio working on white hot beats of which plenty made the cut for ‘Dark Night Sweet Light’.

Diversity was the key for the new record which bounces between Hip-Hop, trap and electronic and in turn earned it a number one in Australia on iTunes and a feature record on national indie station Triple J.

Charles Murdoch – ‘Point’ LP (Future Classic)

Update: the albums on promo but not released yet, but ahh still going to be a HUGE release so leaving it in here.

Charles Murdoch brings a sombre sound to the Australian electronic landscape with his new LP ‘Point’ that’s meant to drop today on Future Classic. It’s raw energy bubbles with glistening synths and polarising emotions captured most certainly in the music video for “Straws” while the entire release champions his low-slung future beats.
