LO’99 Drops An Exclusive Minimix

LO’99 is a name slowly creeping into every Aussie house heads ‘watch list’. He announced himself in emphatic style with ‘Take Me Back’ topping the Aussie club charts almost instantly.

In the lead up to a bangin’ set at Laundry, we caught up with the enigmatic producer to learn a little more about his back story and ‘that’ single’s success.

You announced yourself emphatically with your single ‘Take Me Back’. What was the story behind that song?

Take Me Back (since I first layed in a kick drum) is actually like 2 years old haha. It changed and developed to what is is now over that time, but actually started it 2 years ago! It’s gone from Abelton to Logic to Ableton To Logic more times than i can remember and I’ve worked on it in both Sydney and London haha.

Pretty long in the making, cause sometimes i can finish a tune in a day.. but real happy with how it turned out!! It’s just about to released again in the UK so all work paid off 🙂

You’ve released a myriad of remixes. Which one are you most proud of?

Umm tough one, I don’t think i can pick a favourite one per se. I really enjoyed doing the Royksopp remix cause the vocal and the parts were so dope. It took about 3 different forms before i decided on the final vibe but they were all great in their own right.

There’s been a lot of hype around this new streaming platform dubbed ‘Tidal’ that’s backed by a bunch of big artists. Hype or the real deal?

Ahhh sorry I’m so out of the loop on that one, I’ve heard people talk about but not gone in proper to check it out. Will go peep and suss it out now but haha.

What’s in the plans for Lo’99 this year?

Take Me Back is being released in the UK just now and I have my next tune ready to drop straight after that. It’s called My Mind, just waiting to find out timing and stuff but maybe will be happening in May.

Actually quite a few tunes in the works as I took some time off doing remixes to focus on originals. Few solo tunes and a couple of collabs all nearly done – so should be busy year of releases. I have quite a few shows coming up round Australia and I’ll prob get over to do some UK and Euro things later in the year. Maybe the US next year, who knows. I need to plan more haha.

What can we expect from a Lo’99 set this Saturday at Laundry?

I’ll def be dropping a few of my new tunes (Laundry is a great place to roadtest!). I also have some real dope new records from friends here and abroad.

I’m not sure what time I’m playing though – if I’m on earlier i’ll keep it abit more housey, but if i play close I’ll be keeping the basslines running till the lights come on 🙂

Check out LO’99 this sat at LNDRY
