What Are ‘Rinsers’ and Why Are They Taking Over Perth Clubs?

Up until yesterday we weren’t clued into what exactly ‘rinsers’ were until purveying the pages over at Pilerats who’d given us the 101 on the dancing style.

Turns out DJs who have been playing on the Western outskirts of Australia have taken notice and praised their ’90’s inspired get up’ and throwback rave moves with Kid Kenobi backing the non-hipster movement – ha.

On the surface rinsers look to be high energy dancers, taking a spinning and step approach that looks the business in solo mode or with your squad.

With wide arms and leg motions the dance draws the attention of onlookers and seems to have first landed in Australia around the start of last year.

Having a bit of a sticky beak around the net the dance seems to be a modded house or drum and bass shuffle with its literal own twist albeit having divided the dance community.

On the one hand praise continues for the community feel it’s created, rinsers, somewhat outcasts tend to stick together and with it, enough numbers to fill clubs and open up touring opportunities for DJs that once didn’t exist.

On the other people don’t like something big and brash which is exactly what these club kids are doing. They’ve also copped some flak for the fashion that goes with it, read – bucket hats and sports kit.

Like all things though, how long will ‘rinsers’ remain in the clubs? Will we see them on East Coast anytime soon?

Check out Pilerats stepping into defend rinsers here. Let’s not forget where this all might have started…
