Slumberjack Talk ‘Naked’ With Alison Wonderland And More!

In the lead up to a run of national shows including an appearance at Chinese Laundry this Saturday night alongside Hoodboi, Slumberjack checked in with us to chat about their collaboration with Alison Wonderland, hospital visits, Perth’s rinsers, audio powered weapons and more.

You have a track collaboration with Alison Wonderland. Can you explain how you guys met and how that came about making ‘Naked’?

We hit Al up on Twitter first asking if we could remix Cold and she was fully down for that – we got the stems and sent her the first demo back within a couple of days and it was finished really quickly. Then when we were in Sydney for Stereosonic we went to check out her set and ended up hanging out for a while. We jumped in the studio a couple of days later and clicked hard – the track was fully laid out after that first day and then we just finished in a hotel room in Melbourne for the next leg of the tour.

Speaking of ‘Naked’, Alison’s been launching her album in strip clubs. If you guys ever launched an album, where would you do it?

Probably at a Korean BBQ restaurant – instant hunger fulfillment at any time.  Would be dope to also do one in a concert hall.

Being Perth based Braj’s, is the electronic scene on west coast of Aus different to the scene on the east coast of Aus?

Yes, there’s definitely notable differences with things over this side but every city has its own quirks. Perth is very bass music oriented which works nicely for us – oh and we also have the whole “rinser” thing going on.

What music are you guys working on at the moment?

We’re working on the next EP and a couple of other remixes – it’s always great to be in the studio and we’re really enjoying the process.  We get overly excited with new sounds; we can’t ever seem to contain ourselves to just one. We always “over-write” so the hardest part for us now is taking all the ideas we have and cutting everything down.

Fletcher, we noticed you were in hospital, are you all better now?

Yep yep all sorted! It was an interesting experience going through the whole thing – ended up being in hospital for way longer than expected but I didn’t mind too much because I had all the time in the world to work on stuff I wanted to. That, and the fact that I could sleep at any time I felt appropriate.

We saw a bro attach a 303 and 606 synth to his car. If you were to invent something involving synths, what would it be?

Oh daym that’s cool. I think we’d invent something like a sub sonic weapon.  Something with a driver/speaker cone so big it can push a lot of air at very low frequencies, I’d imagine anyone exposed to it would have a very difficult time breathing.  I mean there are tonnes of tests and research out there hypothesizing how this might/might not work, but hey, had Edison quit early we wouldn’t have the light bulb. ☺

With final release tickets only available, see Slumberjack alongside Hoodboi this Saturday night at Chinese Laundry.
