Jamie xx and Four Tet pull Understatedly Phenomenal Essential Mix

So this time I think I actually did go to house heaven.

The evil funky genius that is Pete Tong has grouped together Jamie xx and Four Tet for two hours of amazingly subdued baby making tunes (calm and structured humping should be a thing). With the majority of tunes sourced from inside the motherland, the mix is two hours of patriotic underground.

The mix gains momentum with xx’s monumental track ‘Gosh’, and follows on with a nicely balanced insertion of the duo’s own tunes. Up in there is xx’s mix of Tet’s ‘Lion’, as well as some of Tet’s Percussions work – ‘Digital Arpeggios’ is undeniably stunning. Later they drop an unreleased collab between Tet and Designer which is a drumming fucking delight.

There’s a good label representation in there too – obviously from Young Turks and Text Records – but White Label, Black Hawk and the always funky Big Dada also make impressive appearances. The mix also finishes off with two xx tracks including ‘Alba’ – which will undoubtedly be a huge single from his incoming LP In Colour, dropping on June 1. Damn it’s good.

Prefaced by a relatively pointless but cute chat between the two mates (‘I think I first met you through my cousin’/’Yeah’. That’s great guys.) it’s good listenin’ all round. For best results grab some over-ear headphones as the curated tracks have some surprisingly intricate details.

Listen to the thumper right hurr before checking out details of Jamie’s forthcoming record including tracklisting here.
